Important Things To Note:

  • Electricity, coal & wood for your first couple of fires are included in the price of your stay.
  • Bed linen is provided and beds will be made up for you in advance. Kitchen clothes are provided.
  • Bath and hand towels are NOT provided. Please bring your own.
  • Initial supplies of tea, coffee, flour, sugar, herbs, spices, loo paper etc. are provided – just replace any essential supplies that you have used up.
  • Dogs must be kept under careful control at all times to make sure that they don’t worry the sheep.  The farmland and fells around Stephenson Ground are a working environment so sheep, tractors and other agricultural activities must be expected and always respected.  Please park your car considerately without restricting access to any fields or barns.
  • A car is essential, both for getting to Stephenson Ground and for getting around once you’re here.  For extra visitors arriving on public transport, the mainline stations at Oxenholme (Kendal, approx 1 hour drive) and Ulverston (40 mins drive) are the best choices.  Driving directions will be sent to you on booking.
  • The house isn’t suitable for wheelchair users and may not be suitable for anyone with restricted mobility due to steps and uneven surfaces.  Young children must be supervised carefully as the house isn’t specifically child-proofed and cars and other traffic come through the yard. Babies are welcome but please bring your own travel cots. As the house can be a little dusty due to the open fires and can occasionally feel damp if the weather is bad, it may not be suitable for bad asthma sufferers.
  • During winter, snow and ice can sometimes make getting to the house very difficult if not impossible.  If you’re booking the house between December-March, we recommend that you telephone us the day before you’re due to arrive to check on local weather conditions.

Do just ask if you’re in any doubt about anything and we’ll be happy to answer your questions.
